About This Chapter
It's the middle of the morning, and the two boys are milking cows. They're broke, but they're grateful that they have work. The boys decide to play a game of tennis on a nearby court. The farmer's daughter is playing tennis, so they ask the girl to borrow their racket for a game. The girl says she's not sure if it's okay to play on a court without a coach, so the boys ask her to take it easy. She says she doesn't know how to play tennis, but she'll be fine. The two boys decide that they'll test their skills against Carlos, who was the best player in the world at the time. Carlos beat Carlos in a fight, and Carlos is now the number one player in France. The girls are impressed by Carlos's fighting spirit, and they think they can beat him in a tennis match. The only problem, Carlos says, is that he can't hit the topspin of the backhand that a giant could hit. He's worried that Carlos will be able to catch up to him once the ball hits the ground.
