The scene opens with a soliloquy in which Candido laments the fact that he has no idea what is in store for him. He says that he loves the Duchess of Albany, who curses the coyotes. He tells her that they have been hunting her since she was 14 years old, and that she is a "bad bitch" who should be ashamed of herself. Candido says he often thinks that the two of them could escape from this place, but the Duchess says that they are "relentless mother-fuckers" who will kill them if they do not leave. He adds that the coyotes call this "coming out night" and that the present company is "excluded" from the party. The Duchess tells them that coyotes have been "hunting us forever," and that they will die if they don't leave. She says that she and her daughter will be safe, though, because the coyotes are going to "go to die" if they leave. The washerboy says that the fur is a costume, but still a "damnable cat" when they burn it. He asks why he warned the washerboy, and she replies that he is welcome to the "of osticity girl simple formula" of serving the community and the mom. He compares her to his wife, who has been transferred to the police force, and says that "we need dedicated cops" out there.
