In this chapter, we are introduced to Sofia's father, Lorenzo, and his son, Claudio. Claudio is shocked to learn that his son is in love with a woman who is not his mother, and that he has run into his father and kissed her. He is furious that Lorenzo has ruined his daughter's life and betrayed his family. He blames himself for everything that has happened to his son. He tells Claudio that he found him a place in Turin, where he will spend the rest of his life. He forgives him and begins to forget about his daughter.
