The story opens with a description of a homicide that took place in one of the city's "community areas." The victim is identified as 41-year-old jiang, who works as a cashier at the local grocery store. The victim's name is chengjia zhou, and he is described as a "humble servant" who has been "through enough trauma." The protagonist introduces himself as "little cutie" and welcomes the protagonist to his new home. He tells the protagonist that he has just moved into the neighborhood and that he is not prepared for anything. The protagonist asks the protagonist why he didn't tell him in advance, and the protagonist tells him that he brought his date to his house, and that she followed him herself. He then tells the story of the protagonist's father, who disappeared when the protagonist was 9 years old and his mother when she was 10. He says that he was a "cursebreaker" and that his name is similar to the "taoist priests" that the protagonist has heard of. He explains that some time ago they tracked a demon's movements and arrived at the city, but after arriving there, the demonic aura disappeared. They then saw that the demon had caught jiang's mother by another demon, and so they rushed to the scene of the crime. They also found that jiang had gotten the word 'kun' on his forehead after becoming a demon. They ask the protagonist if he has something to ask the demon that killed his mother.
