About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young lovers discuss the events of the previous chapter. They discuss how they came to be in the town of Freetown, Louisiana, and how the townspeople still remember the events that took place there. The young lovers explain that their father, jedidiah Jenkins, was a simple farmer who had a vision that gave him a new kind of stem cell technology. The vision was a lie, and the seed of the new technology changed into something inhuman. The lovers then discuss how the old woman, Mary, now owns the town, and they wonder if there is a cure for the disease in town. They wonder if the people who touch them are more like them than they would like to admit. They also discuss the fact that many people have left town because of the "old witch" who took over the town and who has "brainwashed" the people into believing that they are the future.
