About This Chapter
Back at the brothel, we find out that all the people who raised money for Charlotte's campaign are dead, and that they're going to need a bunch of plastic surgery to make up for it. We learn that the brothel's owner, ted, and his assistant, vita, are going to steal one of the prostitutes' cars and use it to get to the campaign headquarters. . They're also going to use a fake bank account to keep track of all the money that's been deposited in ted's and vita's secret accounts. We also learn that ted doesn't have any money in his own bank account, so he's not going to be able to track it back either. He's just going to pretend that he does have some money somewhere else in his secret accounts, and then he'll tell the police that he has some money. We're not sure what ted is talking about, but we're guessing that he means to tell the cops about the money he has in his bank account. We hear ted say that he wishes he were as calm and carefree as Charlotte is, because she's too nervous to be in control of her emotions. He tells vita that he wants to know something about her before he joins the secret service, but she refuses to tell him anything about her past. She says that her parents weren't monsters, but that she always had to be on top of her job to survive. She tells ted that they were weird, but they didn't really have anything to do with sex, so she had to have a lot of sex just to get by. She also says that she used to have to be constantly watching her back to make sure that she wasn't sleeping with someone who was dangerous. She asks ted to put her down, but ted tells her to get away from the whole thing, because ted can't be too drunk right now. He says that he can only do this for selfish reasons, and he'd like to thank ted for his part in the scheme.
