In this chapter, the narrator tells the story of a lonely young man who has come to the manor to find his family. He tells the young man that his heart is broken because he has lost his family in a robbery. The narrator explains that the manor has a dark history and that no one has lived there for 50 years. The young man wonders if there is something crucial in the library that the master cannot find. He asks the narrator to try to find a fragment of his heart that Peter Pan would have written about. He says that he wants to collect all of his fragments so that he can remember what happened in the robbery.
