He asks his roommate if he can go for a ride in his new car, but his roommate refuses to let him go. He tells his roommate that he will not be able to complete his thesis if he continues to fail on his tests. The protagonist, however, is not deterred by his roommate's refusal to allow him to go on his ride, and he promises to pay for his meal. He then asks if the protagonist has bought a new car and is surprised to learn that he did. He realizes that the protagonist is sleeping in the car.
