About This Chapter
The next morning, Ross and the others are surprised to find that the town is on their side. They've been hanging around the monastery too long, and they don't think they'll be able to find anyone who's loyal to them. They decide to accept the offer of food and shelter from the Bastard's second-in-command. The Bastard is a second-generation pureblood, and he has 50 warriors, which is a lot of ugly, but they don1t need to worry about it. If they kill Pishlieu himself, he will have to leave the area to join another clan of Bastardists. Ross warns them not to rely too much on the weapons from the era, but he still doesn1t understand why they can1t find a way to use the grenade. He thinks it was just a "cheap noisemaker" . He wonders why he has gotten stuck with the grenade, and wonders why the hell he is stuck with it. He sniffs a pigeon, which he thinks is the same kind of thing that can be used for chewing on a piece of metal. The pigeon is a big, pointy head, which sounds like it would be a good weapon to use. But it isn1t. It is a "lump of metal" that sounds like a loud noisemaker . It sounds like they need to hurry up and get the heck out of there. They find a woman named Layla, who has come to rescue them.
