About This Chapter
The next morning, the new king is greeted by his chief, who tells him that he has been working very hard. He asks if anyone has been missing, and he learns that they have been lost on their way to the meeting. He also learns that the king's wife and daughter are late for the meeting, and that he had a nightmare during which he was unable to sleep. The chief reassures him that they are friends and that they will be fine. The new king welcomes the librarians of Alexandria, who are here to discuss the future of the city. He tells them that the death of the previous king has not yet been announced, but that the cause of the death will be announced in the next few days. He says that he will always remember that the right to choose the next king was given to him by the next highest king himself, who believed that it would help to end the city's fears by selecting representatives from among Alexandria's citizens.
