The chapter opens with a conversation between the tooth fairy and the ghost. The tooth fairy asks the ghost if he has eaten the living flesh from the dead dog. The ghost replies that he has not, and that it is not definite that the living creature has eaten it. He then asks if the ghost's curse has been broken, and if he can break it before the curse takes hold. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by the ghost, in which he laments the fact that he will not be able to trick-or-treat this year.
