In this short story, Roxane tries to make sense of the events of the previous day. She realizes that she has taken a day off from her job, and that she is now thirty-one years old. She wonders if she will be able to make it through the first day of her new job without feeling "a little nervous" . She also realizes that Roxane has noticed how much happiness she has noticed in her surroundings, and she has put more effort into her job today than she did the last time she worked for Roxane. She feels that she will have to do more kissing in order to make up for the disappointment she felt in the last kiss. She is also nervous about the reaction she will receive from the audience when she tries to kiss Roxane's underwear, which she has just received in the mail. She does not know how to react to the sight of her own underwear, but she does know that she wants to pretend to be drunk so that she can be held responsible for her actions.
