This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the story, when a young girl named Aurora is sleeping with a dragon named Lilien. The girl's father, a dragon hunter named Louis, tells the girl that he loves her and wishes that he could marry her. Aurora faints, and the father tells his daughter that she is beautiful, but that love is not a matter of whim.
