In this chapter, the narrator tells us that he has a "perverse longing" for his "junior colleague" , who is red-headed and has "a low tolerance" for alcohol. He tells us how he snuck a "non-alcoholic drink" into the "joint party" that night, and how he was "having some trouble" at the party. The narrator thanks everyone for their kind words, and says that he feels like he "did the same thing" with "utami" . He says that when he went out that night to get "some fresh air," he saw that his friend was flushed, and he tried to contact him, but could not reach his private number. He wanted to ask him if he would have trouble getting him a job at the company, and if so, he could come to work for him. He asks her if she would mind coming to work with him, and she says that she would, but that there is a "much more fulfilling position" waiting for her. She tells him that he can come to her company if he wants, and they dash off together.
