In this chapter, we learn that the sadistic secretary of the masochistic club is living in an apartment building in New York City. We learn that he is a member of the "sm" club, a group of men who have sex only with other men. The president of the club, however, is attracted to a woman who does not belong to the club. He tells his secretary that he wants to be "a masochist" , but he is not forcing himself to be one. He says that the only thing that matters to him right now is that the man he loves is happy. The secretary tells the president that she is worried about him, but the two of them are finally "connected" . She tells him to keep his eyes on the man and not to worry about his parents coming to see him. The two agree that they should treasure the things that make them happy.
