The narrator says that he's not sure if he'll stay with the politician or go back to his old life with the boy. He wants to know if the girl will keep him company. He asks the girl if she remembers where they were when she was a kid. The girl is holding a kitten in front of two other boys. The boys are older than her, and the boy who was holding the kitten finally gives up and leaves the scene. The boy doesn't even get up to leave the kitten alone on the ground. The next day, the girl approaches an old woman and helps her carry her things. She asks the boy to thank her for her kindness, and he does. He falls in love with the girl immediately, and they've been ever since.
