About This Chapter
"Don't worry, it's just a performance" , says the actor, who has just left the theater. He's worried about the part he's playing in the play, which was changed the day before. He wants to talk to the actor about what's going on, but he can't get a word in edgewise. He tells the actor that his acting isn't good enough for the stage, and that he'd rather be a bad person than be an actor on stage. The actor says that he heard the actor quarrel with a girl the night before, and he doesn't understand why the girl got the impression she did. He asks the actor if he thinks he can use others as he pleases, and the actor responds that he can. He says that if he were the actor he would do anything for the sake of his acting. He also says that the actor saved his soul when he saw the actor acting the world seemed so brilliant, not going anywhere, that it seemed like he was wrong.
