In this chapter, we meet the protagonist of the novel, a young man who has been marooned on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere. The protagonist tells us that he is alone with a " carnivorous beast" . He asks the protagonist to wake him up, and the protagonist replies that he's completely healthy now. He also tells the protagonist that he was on vacation, but got stranded during his "cruising trip" , and that he doesn't know what's wrong with him. He says that his first fan has been watching over him, and he feels like he has someone watching him, too. He feels like the protagonist has been dodging his questions in different ways, but he says that the protagonist's sexual harrassment keeps him from answering any of his questions directly.
