In this short scene, we learn that the young narrator has fallen in love with the beautiful princess. He is so overcome with emotion that he cannot bear to leave her, and so he begins to rub her dress, hoping that she will laugh at him and make him feel better. He then realizes that he has to kiss her passionately in order to make her laugh, and he is so upset that he is unable to sleep
