The next day, the conscription notice is posted outside the city. The young man fills out the form and waits for his turn to be called. He tells his brother that he would like to enlist in the army, but he doesn't know which service he wants to join. He says that being an infantryman is too dangerous, and logistics isn't good for killing enemy soldiers on the battlefield. He decides to join the archer battalion, which is part of the Fifth Regiment of the army. He's proud to be an archer, but the exam is tough, and he's not very good at it. His brother tells him that the battalion commander has just issued his new recruits with their equipment, and the young man is supposed to meet with the commander soon. He grabs his equipment and runs off to meet the commander.
