The scene opens with a soliloquy by a young woman who has just returned from a meeting with a man. She tells the young man that she is in love with him and that she wants to marry him. The young woman asks the man if he is a model, and the man says that he is. The woman tells him that she has come to see the man because she wants him to talk to her. The man tells her that it is snowing, so she should be careful on her way over early. She asks him if he looks like she might have fallen for a "beast" , and he says that she looks like he might be a model. The girl tells the man to be careful because she is coming in early, as she is sure the man will be looking for her. She says that the man is hot, too, and she tells him she is not ready for the job he has picked out for her yet. He tells her he has been working for the company for six months, and that he has transferred to the editorial department for chocolate chip. He then tells her about his brother's recent wedding and about his promotion to the desk job. She is shocked, and asks if it is normal for her to be so excited. She then asks if the flowers on the table are beautiful, and when he says they are, she thinks he is holding up a bouquet of roses to propose to her
