About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from Marcus Aurelius's poem "The Best Revenge Is to Be Unlike He Who Performed the Injury" . In this passage, Marcus reminds us that it's better to be unlike the man who caused the injury than to be like him. Kiymo and Enoffe discuss the recent events in the Protectorate. They've heard that the machine army is ready to attack, and that the protectorate's leader, Senna, is at an outpost. Enoffe says that he's been doing this for a long time, and he'll be mobilizing his army soon. He's also told that Yonada's army is on a much larger scale than he expected. He adds that he has recently acquired ships that can transport his troops to the outpost. He also tells KiyMo that he knows Yonada was behind the attack, but that he doesn't know who she really was. He says that a friend once told him that he made a promise to make the world a better place than it was before he was stolen, and now he has to keep that promise. He asks Enoffe if he can tell him who Yonada really was, since he can't tell him the identity of the person who attacked him. Enoffel says that the machines are fully operational, and they're ready to go. He tells KiYmo to assemble the first guards, and Enoffel asks if he should have gone along with Yonada and her men in the skirmish. He admits that he wishes he'd gone with them, since they were bigger than him. He then asks Enoffel
