About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that Fudo is overwhelmed by the news that he has defeated the "ancient terror" , and that he will soon be summoned by the shogun. He tells us, however, that he is not sure what to think now that his mother has died. He says that he does not know how to react to the news of the wedding, since he is still tormented by the thought that he must choose between the two of them. The wedding is a blessing from the kami, and it is a sign that the emperor will have descendants. The narrator says that the wedding is beautiful, but that he cannot remember the person who gave him the wedding ring. He is unable to remember the identity of the man who gave the ring to him. The fire rages, and he looks calm and outwardly confident as he approaches. He looks like he is fully worthy of the trust of the emperor. The appearance of his face is clear and distinctive, and revenge was satisfied in blood. He adds that the time has come for peace to return to the land, but he cannot trust kaida. She has obeyed the prophecy that she would give birth to a demon that would destroy the shinobi. She is destined to become a scarlet blade.
