In this short scene, we are introduced to a young man who has just returned from a visit with his father. The young man asks his father to take him to the doctor's office so that he can discuss the birth of his child. The doctor refuses, saying that he is too busy with other business matters to attend to his son's request. The boy, however, is eager to hear his father's explanation of the birth. When the young man tries to convince his father that the child is safe, his father responds by saying that it is not safe for the child to be born out of wedlock and that he will have to work very hard to raise the child.
