In this chapter, we are introduced to Mr. Yamada, who is in charge of a band at the school. He tells us that preparations for the festival are going well, and that he has invited Mr. Manette to hang out with him, but that he was put off by the "abuku smothering" of the other students. He is worried that the air between them is so bad that they will not be able to work together. He gives her a key to his room and tells her that he will be late for work the next day, so she invites him to come and have dinner with her.
