The Governess is bored with her work and wants to buy her something to distract her from it. She tells her sister that poverty takes away one's choice and that she can only choose the cheapest things. She also tells her that there are even studies that explain that poverty can brainwash a victim. She says that she'll find something for her to do once she's there and then they can simply enjoy a "free day" together. She asks if there's anything that she wants to do, and she says that if she does want to do something, it's something she wouldn't like to do. She then tells her about her sister's wish that she should go to university to learn how to be a pharmacist. She's shocked that she would want to go to a place like that, where she'd be surrounded by people who drink too much, have sex with strangers, and generally be a bad influence on others. She doesn't understand why her sister wants to go there, but she promises to do her best for her.
