About This Chapter
It's been a while since we've heard from the narrator, but he's feeling a little better. He tells us that he found out the other day that skinship between lovers can become violence between lovers. He's still trapped in a "box called hell" . He asks the guy why he doesn't like men, and the guy answers that there's a reason why he should explain his lack of love to him. The narrator then asks why the guy is here, and he gets the answer: "a pair of cockroaches" , which is a reference to the fact that the two of them don't seem to like each other. He then asks if the guy has gone home yet, and when the guy says he hasn't, the narrator asks if he'll go home yet. The guy says that he likes the place very much, and that he'd like to go back to it someday. Then he asks if they're going to swim together, and they do, but the narrator is too excited to do so, so they splash and splash until he realizes that his clothes are all wet. He goes on to explain that he has a "phobia of men," which is like a fear of men. He says that if he went back to the sea, he wouldn't be able to change his clothes for a while, but now that he is back in the real world, he can't go back.
