About This Chapter
The next morning, the two men meet in a public place. They are both wearing men's clothing, and they hug each other. The narrator tells us that this is not the first time they've met, but it's the second time that they have met. The first time, the narrator says, he was worried that he might have been involved in an accident, but now he feels like he is his guardian. The second time, he tells the narrator, he's a stranger to the island, and he wants to know why the man is so nice to him. The man tells him that he is the managing director of Hs construction, which is building a resort on the island. The whole island, he says, is owned by the village people, so they want to buy the land and turn it into a resort so they can earn money. The two men argue about whether or not they should have body lotion on their clothes before they go out, and the narrator points out that they are both overreacting.
