The narrator is introduced to a new employee at the register. The new employee introduces himself as "San" and asks the narrator to take care of him. The narrator asks the new employee if he has worked at the store for a while, and he replies that he has, but that they are leaving soon. He then asks if there are a lot of students like him in the college he is going to, and the young man replies that there are, but he is not as high-school as the other employees. He also asks if the salary man comes at this time of day. The young man says that he is too close to him, but the narrator says that it is because he is so close that he cannot have a girlfriend. He adds that he knows why he cant have one, as he is the type of person who likes to buy things on purpose. He asks if they can stay in touch even if they part ways. He says that even if he leaves, they can still talk over the phone. He tells the young employee that he did not think he would remember his name, and that he was surprised that the new man would remember him. He explains that he took care of his friend, who is a kind and gentle man. He is sorry that the salaryman did not have to deal with him at all, and asks if he is feeling lonely at the end of his last day at work. He does not know what he should say, and says that the man always bought sweets and cigarettes for him, even though he is a minor. He wonders if the man was watching him while he was at home, and wonders if he was just waiting for his salaryman
