This chapter opens with the disembodied voice of the soul factory exclaiming, "spit him out!" He is referring to the albino, who has been awakened by the "soul factory" and is now on a hunt for the "superstitions." The soul factory tells the albino that he was once a loyal member of the clan, but that he fled when he learned that his followers were killed or exiled. The albino tells him that he is in cahoots with the "freaks" and that he has made the clan a "shame." He asks if he can still command him, and the albino replies that he can, but he has fled because he made his followers "a shame to the supreme clan."
