The chapter opens with a conversation between a young man and his servant. The servant tells the young man that he is a "tall alpha servant" . The young man asks the servant if he is married and the servant says he is. He tells the servant that they are here to find a husband and that he has been forgiven for marrying someone who worked for the main house. He thinks that the servant turned out to have been a much better man than he was and that most of the men in the house are "alphas." The servant says that he brought his bib with him so that he could deliver the message to the master. The master tells him that he will be delivering the message at the same time as everyone else. He says that the master is busy with exams and that even when the time comes for the candidates to leave, they should go somewhere else.
