About This Chapter
Back on the ship, the captain tells the lieutenant that they've run out of time to get the ship back to normal. He tells the captain to go back to the high council and tell them what's going on. The captain says that he's not sure if the current is strong enough to keep the ship from going back, but the captain says it's too weak. He's worried about his daughter, who's bleeding from her mouth. He blames himself for her bleeding, and says he should've been more careful with her. He also says that the brotherhood has decided to stay on the island, and that the captain has a duty to help protect them. He says he'll go to the general assembly in a few days, and the captain announces that the high- council has decided that the island will stay in the hands of the brotherhood. He thanks the captain for killing off the demons, and he says they're wasting their time on this island. He doesn't want the island to become a place where they'll be raped and pillaged by the devils. He wants the land to be on the "temperate side" of the island so that they can live in peace and prosperity. This is a trick, he says, because they'd rape and pillage the island's women, and it'll make the island even more dangerous for the angels. He thinks the priests are lying about the existence of the demons. The priests have weakened since the arrival of the angels, and now they don't have the power to rape or pillage women.
