About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to the king of the ice kingdom of Khourg, who is also known as the "golden cord isle" or the "king of ice" . He is the son of the first king of ice, and he is also the father of the current king, King Hyacinth. The ice kingdom is divided into two parts: the first part is the kingdom of the king and the second part is that of the queen. The first part of the story is set in the throne of ice. The king is a golden cord, a symbol of unity. The second part takes place on a golden bridge. The captain of the ship asks the king if he would like to join him on the bridge, but the king says that it is a custom to sacrifice three lives in order to spare one. He asks the captain to plant an olive branch on the side of the bridge so that the enemy will not understand what he is saying. The Captain tells him that the olive branch is engraved in the flesh of the man who is his first ancestor. The King tells the captain that he is the first of his line to be a king. He tells the Captain that he has two prisoners, and that they must move as fast as possible to escape the enemy. He says that they will use the incendiary to distract the enemy and distract the queen from chasing them. The men decide to divert the enemy's attention away from the queen and towards a place called Torkevalferd, where the king will find a place to take the golden cord out on the "big softy." The Captain says that the queen is no more than her son, who was the king, and so the king must go there. He then tells the man that his name is Jaemon
