In this chapter, we learn that Dr. Bledsoe and the rest of the gang have finally made it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. They've been waiting for a long time, and now they're finally at the bottom. They need to figure out a way to get to the top, and the only way they know how to do that is by climbing up the side of the ship. Dr Owen is the one who's been climbing the side, and he's the only one who knows how to get there. He tells Owen to get up and leave, because the Marianas are going to kill him and the others if they don't. Owen's not going to let this happen. He's got a plan: he'll go down the side and kill himself.
