About This Chapter
The lieutenant reports that four more men have been injured in the explosion, bringing the total number of casualties to six. He says that they are counting on him to keep the men alive. He tells the lieutenant that he is not getting any better with the treatment he is giving them. The lieutenant asks if he has a defibrillator, and the lieutenant says that he does not have one. He gives the lieutenant morphine, but the man's heart rate is still slow. He asks if there is a problem with his blood, and he says that there was no sign of an elevated level of gamma-anaphylactic agents in his blood. He adds that they will come back for him when the whole thing is finished. He wants to know if they can break through the ice to get to the wreck, but they are eight miles away. He wonders if they could use a reinforced hull to break through ice, but there is no way to get there. He hears noises all around him, and his light is going out. He is worried that something is in the tunnel, but he is unable to find it. He thinks that they should put their plan in motion, and they are interrupted by the lieutenant, who tells them that the hour they gave him is up, and that he thinks they all know what is the real problem. They will reach the alpha team soon, but will not have time to reach the wreck before it leaves. He has no idea what has happened to Mosso or stillwood, and there is nothing else to be done. He warns them that if they ever come across a wreck, they will not be able to find any classified documents. He reminds them that they have a chance to save the wreck by following his plan.
