About This Chapter
Aleksander, the commander, tells the lieutenants that they should not go down to the engine room because the warning light is going to blow. He tells them to clear the area, close the door, and get out of the way. He also tells them that they have switched off all the lights, heating, and motor controls to cool the reactor two. He says that he has heard from the Russians for six hours and that they may not be able to rescue the men. He adds that by that time, they will be dead, and he does not want to think too much about the other men on board. The lieutenants agree that the only reason for the events is that they were caused by a mystical influence behind the walls of the cavern. They decide to carry the U.ford dragline out to keep it from getting wet.
