The chapter opens with a description of the grove, the girl, the graveyard, the ghost magic, and the "mammal grove" . The narrator tells us that there is a path through the dense woods, and that he is on board with the idea of going to the swamp to find the second sugar stone. He is afraid that the bugs will catch up to him, and he is afraid to tell him the answers. He tells the narrator that he has found a treasure through the grove. The treasure belongs to the teddy bears, and it is the "rosetta box" , which can find the stone. The lizard boys tell the story of how the bears left behind a bell, a blade, and a box. The bell belongs to all the bears, the blade belongs to each bear, the box belongs to every teddy bear, and so on. The bears left the box behind to help them remember where they came from, and if ever they came back, they would have the box to give to the bears. . the narrator admits that he was afraid, but now that he knows more about where they come from, he can tell more about what they need to do to save the town. He says that they must stop the evil xenakis, and to do this, they need the help of the pirates. The pirates will bring the bear to them, and they will help them find the bear.
