About This Chapter
In this chapter, Mishima continues his story. He tells us that he has come back to rescue her from the wolves, but that he cannot accept what she has become. Mishima asks him to tell him what has happened to his father, and Mishima says that he knows, but he cannot help himself from crying. He asks Mishima why he is here, and she tells him that one day she asked her father what he had to say about her. He told her that she had an ethereal quality about her, and that whenever he looked at her, her features were blurred. She asked Mishima to describe her mother, and he said that she was beautiful, and had a soul that could not hold onto such an extraordinary beauty. Now that Mishima is alone, he feels like he is in the presence of his former mother. He sees her outside the door, and when he falls asleep, he hears her visions. He realizes that he is no longer able to control his anger at Yonzuru, and the wolves have taken over his soul. He feels that he must stay behind and fight for Mishima, but Mishima tells him to stay away from him. She tells Mishima that when she found him, he was an untamed child, but she saw in him the spirit of her son that she always wanted. She says that she put her life in danger by keeping her mistakes hidden, but now that she sees him, she wants to see him return. She asks him if he can restore peace to the ice forest once more, for only he can do so.
