About This Chapter
In this short scene, the three girls discuss what they've learned from the previous night's battle. They're not sure what's going on, but they're determined to find out. They decide to go to their moms and dad's houses to see if there's anything they can do to help them. They don't want to leave, they say, and they'll find out the truth about what happened to their mom and dad. Mazool tells the girls that the war has been going on for a long time, and that it's their destiny to choose whether or not they want to be a part of it. He tells them that they have a lot of stories to tell, but he doesn't have time to tell them all at once. The only thing he can tell them is that they should keep the story of their last battle, because it holds a "story that hasn't yet been told" . They should keep it, he tells them, because the war is theirs to lose, and the innocents are going to pay for it with their blood. He also tells them to keep in mind that the legion may try to kill the king, and if they succeed, it will be their undoing.
