About This Chapter
The clocks from the ship have arrived at the shop, and the owls and the sparrows need to get rid of them ASAP. They need to hold the clocks off long enough so that they can destroy the golden shell. The owls and sparrows don't really need to defeat the clocks, but they do need to keep them off for a long time so that the golden shells can't attack them. They're not going to be defeated, the owls say, and they'll let them out of the shop alive. The owl and sparrow are still alive, they say, because this is their last chance to save the world. They know that this is the biggest mission they've ever had, and it's going to change the world forever. The only way to stop a violent world from happening is through force, the owl says, and that's what he's afraid of. He tells her to stay and build him more machines, and maybe he'll have his men fix this "pet of yours" . The clockmakers are interrupted by a doctor in London who tells them that he had to close down the operation on oak's Achilles heel, which means that his former protege turned out not to be his Achilles heel after all.
