Back in Scotland Yard, Matt tells the gang that he's just been murdered. He's looking into a whole series of murders, he says, thanks to his boss, Lord Oak. When he was a young engineer at Lord Oak's, he was offered a job with the company, but the problem was that the company had discovered a new mineral, called lucifernium. If the company gets the mineral, they'll be able to use it to make more powerful machines. Matt says that's because of the ex-cop, who's kidnapping him.
