This chapter opens with a flashback to the first chapter. It's the morning after the attack, and the police are still looking for the girl. She's home from her hospital wake, and nobody can hear her crying except for the guy who brought her the rose. He's studying for the entrance exam to the university, but he can't seem to concentrate. Finally, he gives up studying and goes to the library to find out what's going on. It turns out that he's actually in love with holy water, and that's why he loves his uncle's mansion so much. He tells the story of how he got hurt in the attack and how his uncle won't let him live in the mansion anymore. He also tells us that he can hear the sound of someone singing in the background, and he can also hear someone else's crying, too. So, he tells us, he can see that the girl's cry is coming from the same place as his own. He can also see that she's being cursed by a demon, which is why he bought the rose in the first place.
