About This Chapter
It's the morning of the first day of class, and we're introduced to Meg. She's been waiting for the day to come, and she's finally ready to start writing her journal. In the journal, she tells us that she has been waiting "for so long" , and that it's time for her to start doing her homework. She wants to be able to order things from her friends, but she can't find anyone to do it for her. She doesn't want to be the only person in the class who's not doing their homework, so she asks the other girls if they'd like to join her in doing theirs. The girls vote on who they want to join, and they vote for a guy named "Swoop" . Meg says that she wants to join the group, but it seems like it would be her fault if she didn't, because the girls in her class voted for the guy who got the most votes. Meg thinks that's her fault, because she'd rather have no friends than be alone with no people to talk to. She wonders if she'll ever have a female version of her journal, since the people who read her blog leave comments on it, and the comments make her feel lonely. She says that if she were to be alone, she would rather be alone than be surrounded by people, because then she wouldn't have to worry about what other people think of her. But if she wanted to change the world, she says, then she would have to be brave enough to join a group of people. She asks the girls to make three or four groups, but they say they'll have to stop after they're done with their homework. Meg wonders if this is true, but the girls say no, because they've already done their homework
