This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between Malcom Tarvalha, the journalist, and the sheriff. Malcom tells the sheriff that he is an "Investigative Journalist" and that he has been told that the sheriff looks like a murderer. He also tells the story of how he tied a girl to a rope and called her by her first name.
