The Governess wakes up to find that her master has left her in charge of cooking. She tells the Governess that she will take charge of the kitchen from now on, and that she is afraid she will be poisoned before she gets to the day when she will have to eat meat. She complains that she cannot afford to buy meat for herself because it is too expensive. She says that she has used up all of her savings to pay for her education, and now she is just a pauper.
