In this chapter, we are introduced to the "Bath-Valued Guest" , a young woman who has fallen in love with a vampire. She asks the concierge at the hotel to come and help her wash her hair because she has fallen asleep on the floor. The concierge tells her that she is too beautiful to be a vampire, and that she should get out of the room and comb her hair herself. The young woman tells her mother that she still hasn't used her sea breeze bath, which she says is a "long life" for a vampire
