About This Chapter
In this short scene, Jessica asks her sister, Lily, what she means when she says that her sister is "just a friend" . Lily replies that she and her sister are studying together and that they are both "representative winters" , meaning that they live in Texas. Lily says that she has seen her sister's picture in the newspaper and that she thought it was family related, but that it will only hurt her and her mother, and it is already hurting her. She asks Lily if she can talk to her family about the matter, but Lily says there is a group of people in town that she should talk to. Lily asks Lily how long she knew her sister was gay, and Lily says it was a long time ago. Lily tells Lily that she is too understanding sometimes, and she asks Lily why it is so hard for people to talk openly about things like this. Lily responds that it is none of her business, and that family is family, so Lily should stop assuming that she doesn't understand Lily's business. Lily then asks Lily what she is doing tomorrow, since she has school to be ready by 5 a.m., so she will have to pick her up at 5.
