About This Chapter
"Anarch" is home from the game, but he can't concentrate because he's worried about what's going on with sarai. He tells himself that he'll never be able to get anywhere if he accepts failure. "What kind of 'friend' sends red" , he says, "is this like the 'girl' who's just 'a roommate' , but there is only one bedroom, just me" . He asks his mom to leave him alone, but she won't let him because she's afraid of what she'll do if she lets him be alone. "You'll grow up out of it," he says. "If you'd just show me how to coach you the right way tomorrow, I think I'd be sick," he adds. "And it'snot like i even cares about the game," he concludes. "I'm calling to check on you," he tells his mom. "Have you ever forgotten to take your test?" . "She left sweetie already ," he declares. "How silly of me, to think c'otherwise !" . Next, he tells us that the rest of his state senators are planning to have a big party before spring session begins. He wants to throw a party, but his mom has given up on him. She's too "wrapped up" with her son's getting into a top college. "Anyway," he continues, "you are always getting awesome exam scores . . but I hate doing homework, so my only pass is because I only read all of the cards." .
