About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's "in love" with Hiroshi, and that he can't tell anyone about it. Hiroshi has chosen the piano for his music exam because it's prettier than any other instrument. The narrator says that he and Hiroshi have been friends all their lives, so he doesn't want to hurt their friendship. He tells Hiroshi to be nice to him. He says that even though he is in love with someone else, he likes Hiroshi even more because he works in the music department. He also says that Hiroshi can use Hiroshi's beauty to his advantage. He asks Hiroshi if he can show him where they left off, but Hiroshi says he can only do so on one condition: Hiroshi must not fall for him, but he must be by his side more. He wants to know what Hiroshi thinks of the gesture, and he wonders if Hiroshi is able to answer without hesitation. He wonders why Hiroshi would want to do anything about it, since everyone is staring at him . He's so happy to hear that everyone likes him, even though Hiroshi decided not to touch Hiroshi. He feels that he has to tell Hiroshi now, because he'll never be able to reciprocate his feelings. But he says that if he did, they'd rot inside him, hidden away somewhere. He promises to play a trick on Hiroshi so that they can express their feelings for each other someday.
