About This Chapter
Back at school, the boys talk about their roles as class representatives. One of the boys says that it's hard to be a class rep because everyone wants to know what you're up to. The other boy says that he's glad to be working with the other boys because he feels like he'll be able to do more with his free time. The boys tease each other about their different roles in school. The first boy says he always finds himself stuck in this role because he doesn't get enough attention from his classmates. The second boy asks what the boys have been talking about. He says that they've been discussing the fact that his dad has been missing since the beginning of the school year. The third boy asks if he knows where his dad lives. The fourth boy says his dad is from a different part of town and that he hasn't come to school in a while. The fifth boy tells the boys that his father stole money from the company where he works. The sixth boy asks the boys to take a copy of the class notes from the previous school year and give it to his dad. The seventh boy is surprised that the boys came all the way to his house to see him. The boy says it must be very hard for him to keep appearances up because he used to be the most popular kid at school. Now, he says, people are paying attention to him because he is so good-looking. He adds that he threw away their chocolates because he didn't want to let anyone down. The girls are counting on him.
